When anyone mentions Tenerife’s newest attraction, Siam Park in Costa Adeje, they usually rave about how adrenalin pumping the ‘Tower of Power’ ride is, or which of their mates screamed the loudest when being thrown around like rag dolls inside the ‘Dragon’. What few mention, probably because they’re mesmerised by looming giants’ heads, raging rapids and water chutes which rise vertically into cloudless skies, is how beautiful the place is.
The landscape on the hillside above Tenerife’s south coast has been transformed into a mini Far Eastern paradise which holds as …

Earlier this year visitors to Los Cristianos were intrigued by what looked like railway sleepers being laid along the length of the promenade. Soon Tenerife-based internet forums began to debate what their purpose was and some mischievous workman fuelled speculation and had a bit of fun with tourists at the same time by telling people that they were the tracks for a small train.
By now we all know that they had nothing to do with a tourist train, but were merely the foundations for a chic new wooden walkway which …

Last weekend was what was known as a ‘puente’ in Tenerife. Literally meaning a bridge, it’s the name given to the extended holiday that most people take when the Monday is a public holiday and this one, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, is a particularly popular one which heralds the start of the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Valle San Lorenzo, smell that mountain air

There is a rule of thumb in Tenerife, that the further up from the coast you go, the cheaper food and drink become. Valle San Lorenzo is a prime example of that, though only a 15 minute drive or bus above Los Cristianos, its long main street has a great selection of traditional Canarian bars and restaurants where the food reminds you of nature and the prices remind you that you have escaped the UK. The secret has gradually seeped out so it´s best to pre book for the international …

Chayofa, village life with a window on Los Cristianos

They couldn´t sound further apart, the quiet traditional village of Chayofa, with stunning views from its green hills, and Los Cristianos, the bustling doorway to the tourism beaches and nightlife of South Tenerife. The good news is they exist just a few minutes drive from each other, allowing residents of Mirador del Atlantico, Chayofa, the best of both worlds.
Restaurants with fine international cuisine, like La Estancia, have helped to put Chayofa on everyone´s must visit list. Nearby is the popular Jungle Park and the Finca del Arte is a converted …

Tenerife, new comforts for a new lifestyle

Maybe a television travel show once a week or a clutch of weighty coloured brochures, that was most peoples window on the travel world. Improved transport and internet views of holiday hotspots have changed peoples habits, Tenerife has changed too, maybe it’s time you had another look at what it has to offer.
The gorgeous beaches are still here, but there are even more of them now, some man made and some refreshingly natural. Better roads have opened up the island, but there are still plenty of surprises from little villages …
