Earlier this year visitors to Los Cristianos were intrigued by what looked like railway sleepers being laid along the length of the promenade. Soon Tenerife-based internet forums began to debate what their purpose was and some mischievous workman fuelled speculation and had a bit of fun with tourists at the same time by telling people that they were the tracks for a small train.

Last weekend was what was known as a ‘puente’ in Tenerife. Literally meaning a bridge, it’s the name given to the extended holiday that most people take when the Monday is a public holiday and this one, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, is a particularly popular one which heralds the start of the Christmas and New Year festivities.
