Valle San Lorenzo, smell that mountain air
There is a rule of thumb in Tenerife, that the further up from the coast you go, the cheaper food and drink become. Valle San Lorenzo is a prime example of that, though only a 15 minute drive or bus above Los Cristianos, its long main street has a great selection of traditional Canarian bars and restaurants where the food reminds you of nature and the prices remind you that you have escaped the UK. The secret has gradually seeped out so it´s best to pre book for the international cuisine of the Paraiso restaurant, but there are several others equally as tasty.
Gomasper know Tenerife inside out and hand picked Valle San Lorenzo for 2 of their latest developments, Jardin de las Hesperides and Edificio Belingo. Both have been designed to fit in nicely with the tone of the area, and they share the great views down to the coast and up through the Barranco de Chijas.
Valle San Lorenzo is a popular starting point for mountain walkers, just a quick detour down a side street and you are at the foot of the winding and rugged ravine. Rural life takes on a new fascination here from stone water channels that hark back to locals washing clothes in their rocky back yard, the toads and frogs that frequent the local cave and the almond trees with their fragrant and beautiful blossom.
On a more modern theme, the large distinctive round building on the crest of the hill is the new terrero, a modern setting for the ancient sport of Canarian wrestling. Cast your gaze to the sky and you may get a glimpse of brightly coloured para gliders riding the air currents above the barranco. It´s a vision that you will enjoy sharing.
